Adult Winter Reading

Spark your curiosity by reading a book you might not typically choose — we choose it for you. Or, choose your own book and track it at elmlib.org/beanstack, or use the Beanstack book logging app on your mobile device.

  • How to Participate

    1. Complete the form at elmlib.org/challenge. [Submissions close Feb. 21, 2025]
    2. Librarians choose a book just for you.
    3. Read the book! Tell us what you thought at elmlib.org/ChallengeReview starting Dec. 21.

    By completing steps 1-3, you are entered into our Winter Reading Challenge prize drawing. Repeat as often as you wish but submit only one request at a time. The last day to submit a request is Feb. 22. Readers may win one of three $50 Elmhurst City Centre gift cards. Prize winners will be contacted after the program ends.

  • Winter Reading with Beanstack: Choose Your Own Books

    1. Read or listen to a book in your preferred format: print, large type, graphic novel, manga, eBook, audio CD, Playaway, or eAudiobook.
    2. Go to elmlib.org/beanstack, or use the Beanstack book logging app on your mobile device.
    3. For each book you log through Feb. 28, you will automatically be entered into our Winter Reading prize drawing. Readers may win one of three $50 Elmhurst City Centre gift cards. Prize winners will be contacted after the program ends. EPL card required.

    * If you are participating in Winter Reading for Adults and High Schoolers, stop at the 2nd Floor Information Desk to request a prize voucher for one free item from the Lobby Book Sale shelves.

High School Winter Reading (Grades 9-12)

Choose your preferred format: print, eBook, audiobook, graphic novel, or manga. Any book counts!

  • How to Participate

    Read or listen to a book to be entered into a prize drawing. Choose your preferred format: print, ebook, audiobook, graphic novel, or manga; any book counts! Every book read equals an entry to the Teen Winter Reading prize drawing.

    • Prize: $50 City Centre gift card

    All participants must live or attend a high school in Elmhurst, grades 9-12.

Kids' Winter Reading (Birth-Gr. 8)

Join in on the winter reading fun! Track your reading as you trek down a winding trail of sweet treats Dec. 21-Feb. 28. We hope to see you when you visit the Library. Download a reading log or pick one up at the Kids’ Help Desk! Get some Winter Reading suggestions from our Kids’ Library reading experts!

  • How to Participate

    Read for 40 days to complete this winter’s program. Mark a treat on the reading log for each day that you read. You can read for as long as you would like, and the days do not need to be in a row. All kinds of reading and listening count!


    After 20 days of reading, you’re halfway done! Bring your log to the Kids’ Library to earn a swag bag and prize entry. Prize pick-up begins January 9.


    After 40 days of reading, you’ve completed the program! Come to the Kids’ Library to receive your final prize. Your reading log must be received by February 28 to collect prizes.


    After completing the log, as the Kids’ Staff about further reading with a bonus log. Prizes are available to children, from birth through Grade 8.

    Media Match Jr., EPL’s recommendation service for the youngest members of our community, is a great place to go! Start by filling out our kids' form which asks additional questions to make sure we can make the best possible suggestions for children.
